Oblivion Verses (2017)

The aged protagonist of Alireza Khatami’s debut film is in some ways a lost and broken man. And yet he seems content; and through his job, which he takes very seriously, he has a purpose in life. But his little world is threatened by violent outside forces, by a re-emerging autocracy whose corruption and covert dealings won’t allow him to do his job properly.

A Family Submerged (2018)

This Argentine drama is an unwieldy arthouse film that drove people out of my screening. The film has not much to say but takes an unnecessarily long time to say it. There are very good performances and a number of interesting elements here, but as a whole this film does not work.
