A Family Submerged (2018)

This Argentine drama is an unwieldy arthouse film that drove people out of my screening. The film has not much to say but takes an unnecessarily long time to say it. There are very good performances and a number of interesting elements here, but as a whole this film does not work.

Zama (2017)

I sincerely disliked Zama. It is an “artfilm” of the worst kind: long, incoherent, and beloved by a very special breed of film critic.

If you are a hardcore Greenaway fan, you might possibly enjoy Zama, everyone else is far better off avoiding this film.

The Watchman (2017)

A very well-made drama from The Dominican Republic, which sheds a light on the prejudices the country struggles with regarding gender, race, and class.

Despite being predominantly “sad” in tone, and in spite of dealing with heavy issues, The Watchman is a very enjoyable film.
